What are chemical peels?

How do chemical peels work?

- SkinMedica Illuminize Peel: A gentler option, the Illuminize Peel is designed for those with milder skin concerns and is suitable for first-time peel patients. It uses alpha-hydroxy acids to exfoliate and refresh the skin, providing a more radiant appearance without significant downtime.
- SkinMedica Vitalize Peel: This peel is great for patients with moderate skin concerns, such as fine lines, sun damage, and uneven pigmentation. It combines salicylic acid, lactic acid, resorcinol, and retinoic acid to exfoliate the skin and promote a brighter complexion. Typically, the Vitalize Peel involves minimal downtime with some mild redness and flaking for a few days after treatment.
- SkinMedica Rejuvenize Peel: Designed for more advanced skin concerns, the Rejuvenize Peel targets deeper layers of the skin. It’s effective for improving the appearance of wrinkles, pigmentation, and acne scars. This peel uses a combination of peeling agents, including salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol, to offer stronger exfoliation. Patients can experience more significant peeling and redness, with dramatic results often visible after one or two treatments.
- Obagi Blue Peel Radiance: Quick superficial salicylic acid-based facial chemical peel that exfoliates and helps improve overall complexion, and provides firmer, smoother, brighter-looking skin after just 1 use. This is an excellent light peel which has no downtime and is often referred to as a “lunchtime peel.” A series of 4 to 6 peels provides best overall results.
During your consultation at Telos Medical Aesthetics, an Aesthetic Registered Nurse or Licensed Aesthetician will evaluate your skin and discuss your aesthetic concerns and goals to determine which Chemical Peel is the the best treatment for you. Your Aesthetic RN will take all the time you need to answer any questions you may have. Together, you will develop a very individualized aesthetic plan. A customized Chemical Peel course of treatment will be made, choosing the specific strengths and number of peels needed to achieve your aesthetic goals.
What can I expect during treatments?
You may experience a mild tingling or warming sensation during the procedure, but discomfort is minimal. Your team at Telos Medical Aesthetics will prioritize your safety and comfort. After the treatment, there’s often a period of redness and peeling as your skin regenerates, especially with medium or deep peels.
Post-Treatment: You will be given a medical-grade skincare regimen for both before and after your procedure. This will prepare the skin as well as optimize your Chemical Peel results.
